Honda Fit e:HEV Long Term Report: A Capable All-rounder
By Galle Enterprises Road Test Desk · 11 July 2026 · 4.1K Views

The Fit came to us as a grade 4.5 auction car with 38,000 km on the odometer, and the plan was simple: run it exactly like a family would, on the same broken B-roads and the same Colombo crawl, and see what breaks first. Nothing has.
The Space Reason
Honda's centre-tank layout still has no equal in this class. The Magic Seats flip up to carry a washing machine upright, and with the rear bench down the load bay is genuinely van-like for a car that fits in a Colombo parallel parking slot.
For a family of four with weekend luggage, the Fit swallows everything a mid-size sedan would, with a boot lip low enough that loading is not a two-person job.

The Drive Reason
The e:HEV system runs as a series hybrid for most of the time, which means the drive feels electric far more often than the engine size suggests. Around town it is smooth and almost silent, and the engine only cuts in as a generator.
On the Southern Expressway it settles into a direct-drive mode and cruises at 100 kmph without straining. Steering is light but accurate, and the chassis handles broken tar with more composure than most imports in this bracket.

The Cost Reason
We are averaging 26.4 kmpl in mixed running, which is close to the Aqua and remarkable given the extra space. A full tank costs about LKR 13,800 and lasts more than a week of city use.
Service intervals are long, and unlike older IMA hybrids the e:HEV pack has been trouble-free. Battery health readings still show 96% capacity after our term.
