Nissan Leaf Ownership Review: Living With 3,000 km Of Charging

Nissan Leaf road test in Sri Lanka

The Leaf is the car that introduced most Sri Lankan buyers to electric driving, and the used market is full of them. The question is no longer whether an EV works here — it is which battery you are buying.

The Range Reason

Our 40 kWh car shows 11 of 12 battery bars and delivers a genuine 235 km in mixed use, dropping to about 190 km with the air conditioning working hard in Colombo traffic.

That is enough for a week of commuting between charges, and enough for a Colombo–Kandy run with one top-up.

The Charging Reason

Charging overnight at home on the domestic tariff costs roughly LKR 1,150 for a full pack. That works out to about LKR 5 per kilometre, a fraction of any petrol car in this comparison.

Public CHAdeMO chargers are still limited outside the Western Province, so plan long trips around known stations rather than assuming coverage.

The Buying Reason

Battery state of health is everything. Insist on a segment count and a diagnostic printout before committing to any bid — a 9-bar car may look identical but will cost you a third of its usable range.

Our valuation engine flags battery health as a separate line item precisely because it moves the fair price by millions.
